About R2P and Civilian Resistance in Myanmar

Join APR2P Research Fellows Associate Professor Cecilia Jacob and Dr Eglantine Staunton from the Australian National University as they present a seminar on civilian resistance to Myanmar's coup and how it applies to R2P.

The panel will examine the civilian resistance movements that have grown in the country following the Tatmadaw's takeover in February 2021. It will ask whether the international community is doing enough to fulfill its responsibility to protect in Myanmar, and whether supporting civilian resistance is an effective measure of atrocity prevention.

Panelists include Dr Alistair Cook from Nanyang Tehnological University, Singapore, and Debbie Stothard and Dan Goode from APPAP member ALTSEAN Burma.

The panel will take place over Zoom on 4 March 2022, at the following time:

  • 3:00pm Brisbane time.
  • 1:00pm Singapore/Kuala Lumpur time.
  • 12:00pm Bangkok/Phnom Penh time.
