Researcher biography

Dr Beth Rowan is a researcher examining the role of law and institutions in the prevention, restraint, and accountability of political violence. Working across atrocity prevention, international humanitarian law, and international criminal law, she is especially interested in the gaps and limits within existing legal frameworks and in the creative mechanisms practitioners develop to extend the reach of law.

She holds a PhD from the University of Queensland, and a Masters (with Distinction) from the University of Western Australia, and is a long-time volunteer with the Australian Red Cross Society.
