Researcher biography

Before assuming his duties as Special Advisor, Ivan served as the United Nations Assistant-Secretary-General for Human Rights, from 2010 to 2016. 

His previous roles in Croatia include the Minister for Justice and the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, where he served as President of the Economic and Social Council.

Serving in an expert capacity, he has been a member of the Council of Europe's Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission) and the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance, as well as an Agent of the Republic of Croatia before the United Nations International Court of Justice.

In July 2017, Ivan was conferred the title of Honorary Professor by the University of Queensland.
