Edmund Bon Tai Soon
Mr Edmund Bon Tai Soon is an eminent lawyer in Malaysia practising at AmerBON, Advocates and served a three year term from 2016 to 2018 as the Representative of Malaysia to the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human RIghts (AICHR). He is a co-founder and director of a non-governmental organisation, the Malaysian Centre for Constitutionalism & Human Rights (MCCHR), which focuses on strategic litigation and human rights advocacy.
Edmund teaches at the University of Malaya and regularly speaks at human rights conferences. He co-authored the Halsbury's Laws of Malaysia on "Citizenship, Immigration, National Security and the Police" and has conducted more than 1000 hours of training for activists.
Edmund read law at University College London and was called to the English Bar (Lincoln's Inn) in 1997. He was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1998 and has been in active practice since then. Edmund has a Masters' degree in International Human Rights Law from the University of Oxford.
