R2P and support of civilian resistance in Myanmar

6 Apr 2022

APR2P's newest report examines the current conflict in Myanmar, and offers alternative ways in which R2P could be applied, short of military intervention, to bring about a peaceful resolution.

It also grapples with the complex ethical considerations of supporting the self-nominated National Unity Government and the associated People's Defence Forces in conflict with the military dictatorship of the Tatmadaw.

The report is aimed at ASEAN members and those of the international community that have an interest in atrocity prevention in Myanmar. To that end, it offers recommendations that apply measures in line with R2P that aim to prevent further atrocities occurring and move the country further towards peace.

The report can be read here (PDF, 543KB) or on our APR2P Reports page.
