Translated Documents

APR2P has published several translations of key documents from the UN and elsewhere into local languages of the Asia Pacific, to facilitate awareness raising and in an effort to make atrocity prevention strategies more accessible to communities in the Asia Pacific. The Centre has commissioned and collated informal translations of documents relating to R2P in regional languages including:

The Framework of Analysis for Atrocity Crimes: A Tool for Prevention (see the Core R2P Documents page);
The 'R2P Primer' (PDF, 517KB): a document produced by the Centre specifically for countries in the Asia Pacific region;
Toolkit on the Responsibility to Protect (PDF, 8.6MB): produced by the International Coalition for the Responsibility to Protect (ICRtoP) and approved for translation after being updated by the Centre in 2014;
Resolution on Enforcing the Responsibility to Protect (PDF, 48KB): adopted at the 128th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

The Centre has also undertaken translations relating to religious freedom with our partner the Southeast Asia Parliamentarians for Freedom of Religion or Belief (SEAPFoRB) Southeast Asia Parliamentarians for Freedom of Religion and Belief (SEAPFoRB), APPAP and the ASEAN Parliamentarians for Human Rights (APHR). The key documents regarding key international standards. relate to religious freedom and plans of action on how to deal with hate speech and incitement of atrocity crimes. These translations aim to provide information for parliamentarians, religious leaders and other stakeholders on the importance of this freedom and how best to foster it in their local communities. There are also translations of various 'Plans of Action', which put forward ways to counter hate speech stemming from religious intolerance, and how this intolerance could incite violence that may morph into atrocity crimes.Currently, they have been translated into Bahasa Indonesia, Burmese and Thai.

As part of APR2P's Pacific Project, the UN's A/RES/53/144: Declaration on the Right and Responsibility of Individuals, Groups and Organs of Society to Promote and Protect Universally Recognized Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms (PDF, 31KB) has been translated into the local languages of Papua New Guinea (Tok Pisin), Fiji (iTaukei) and Vanuatu (Bislama).
